Terms & Conditions

Effective 7 July 2026 · Version 1.0

These Terms govern your use of the SkyOwl prototype, provided as part of the University of Melbourne research project Safe by Design: Building Human-Centred Digital Flight Assistants (Human Research Ethics ID 31176). By accessing or using the prototype, you agree to these Terms.

SkyOwl is an experimental research prototype — not an operational or safety-critical system. It must not be used to make, support, or replace real flight, training, dispatch, or other operational decisions. Always rely on your certified training, procedures, and qualified personnel.

01Acceptance

By creating an account or using the prototype, you confirm that you have read and agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the prototype.

02Eligibility

The prototype is available only to invited participants who are aviation professionals or otherwise part of the research, and who are 18 years or older. You agree to provide accurate information when creating your account.

03Nature of the service

04Your account and conduct

05Research participation and consent

Your use of the prototype is part of a voluntary research study. You may withdraw at any time without explanation or prejudice, and you may request deletion or restriction of your unprocessed data up to two weeks after it is collected, as described in the Privacy Policy and Account & Data Deletion pages.

06Intellectual property

All intellectual property in SkyOwl — including the software, models, knowledge graphs, and related materials — is owned by the SkyOwl team, the University of Melbourne, and/or its partners. By participating, you acknowledge that you will not have any claim to intellectual property generated through the use of your data, including in the context of commercial developments. De-identified data may be used to build and commercialise an AI training assistant.

07Third-party services

The prototype relies on third-party services, including Anthropic AI models provided via Amazon Web Services (AWS Bedrock) under a zero-data-retention configuration, and — where you choose to use it — messaging platforms such as WhatsApp. Your use of those channels is also subject to their own terms and privacy policies.

08Disclaimers and limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, and subject to any rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law that cannot be excluded, the University of Melbourne and the SkyOwl team are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or reliance on, the prototype or its outputs. The prototype is provided without warranty as to accuracy, availability, or fitness for a particular purpose.

09Suspension and termination

We may suspend or end access to the prototype at any time, including at the conclusion of this phase of the project. You may stop using the prototype and delete your account at any time via Account & Data Deletion.

10Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Victoria, Australia, and you submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of that state.

11Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as the project develops. We will post the revised version here with a new effective date. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
